Research Projects

The opportunity to do research with my undergraduate and post-graduate students, with in-service teachers and fellow colleagues nationally has facilitated me in changing my ontological, epistemological and methodological view.

Similarly to my teaching experiences from 2013 to 2016 for Foundation Phase Physical Education, having to learn how to teach research methods to post-graduate students had its own unique challenges between the years 2011 and 2016. Transforming from a quantitatively based researcher to a qualitative based researcher between the years 2015 to 2018 has additionally been immensely challenging but rewarding.

Being involved in research project which are educationally based has definitely contributed positively to my teaching practices in many ways. Through becoming more scholarly and reflecting on my theoretical and conceptual frameworks my understanding of the ‘why things happen’, ‘what can be done’, ‘how can it be done’ and my interrogation cycle have and still are evolving.

The following are the research topics I am currently busy with:

  • My doctorate research on exploring how Foundation Phase teachers Fundamental Movement Skill Pedagogical Content Knowledge can be enriched through Participatory Action Learning and Research.

  • A national research project which  includes a situational analysis of the status of South African Physical Education

  • Transforming the first year foundation phase physical education module into student-centered teaching grounded within a humanizing pedagogy.

The conferences I have attended to share my research findings included:
