I have called the year 2017 the year of innovation because the term highlights my journey of transformation. Innovation refers to a new method, idea and product. In my case the focus on student emotions, academic literacies, NMU values and graduate attributes is an innovative approach.
After reflecting on the 1) quantitative and qualitative data from my students, 2) the research findings on Physical Education Teacher Education, student-centred, self-directed learning, active/collaborative and authentic learning experiences, 3) my practical experiences in school settings, 4) the Continued Professional Development courses I have been on and my personal feelings during the course of 2013 to 2016, and 5) my interrogation ‘lens’ the scholarly and innovative approach emerged.
To understand how I got to this point I suggest you refer to the following links.
The primary aim of 2017 will be to transform the first year Foundation Phase physical education module into student-centered teaching grounded within a humanizing pedagogy. The following documents are the working drafts of the reflections with CTLM and Ronelle Plaatjies:
-
Proposed research title, aim, questions and objectives
-
Proposed PE course content and pedagogical approaches inline integrated with NMU values and attributes
Through collaborating with a professional in Higher Education student education, it is hoped that the mixed method approach to data gathering and the reflections from a specialist in the field will contribute to the transformation process needed for both myself as a lecturer but also the student body.
The pictures below depicts the envisioned focus areas for student and lecturer reflections.
